I have attached the ORIGINAL LIDAR Sensor Sparkfun library to this message. Install it (Just extract the files from the zip file inside your Arduino library folder).

How to do that in the case you have doubts: https://www.arduino.cc/en/guide/libraries (Importing a .zip Library paragraph)

That should fix the compilation problem some of you are having.
Sparkfun has changed the LIBRARY files names and the compiler can not find the correct files.

Thanks but I still get a compilation error:

vl53l1_error_codes.h: No such file or directory

that particular .h file doesn’t seem to be included in the

SparkFun_VL53L1X_Arduino_Library.zip

folder you made available on 1/7/2019

Regards, Richard

OK, I found them here

Ok. That is new. We will try to replicate your error message and add, if necessary, the new file/s to the zip Thanks Richard

I was getting the error about not finding SparkFun_VL53L1X_Arduino_Library.h, so I downloaded the original library you linked.

Good news:  no longer get that error.

Bad news:  Now I’m getting a new error:  no matching function for call to ‘VL53L1X::VL53L1X()’

please assist?  (I also have v1.2.9 of Sparkfun VL53L1X 4m Laser Distance Sensor installed)

@whereupon

Looks like you have two different libraries for the LIDAR?

I have attached to this message my /Arduino/libraries folder. Create a backup of yours and replace it with mine. Does that solve the problem?

thanks very much.  It now compiles.  there’s some warnings, but no errors.

Looking through instructions, I see the word ‘autonomous’, but the instructions say to use the app.  Will it fly around by itself or does it need to be steered?

thanks!

I tried to edit my earlier post, but there’s a short time limit.  I’m attaching a screenshot of the compiler warnings.  I’m obviously not a programmer!

Those warnings do not seem to be a problem. What Arduino IDE version are you using?

@whereupon Use the 1.8.6 (up to 1.8.12). The latest versions of the Arduino IDE are not fully tested
